JOURNEY TO UNFOLD

We don’t know where we’re goin' darling, but we know it feels right

On the road and we’ll keep on driving, take a truck stop for the night

Feel my pulse with your head at my chest. Tell me everything is fine

Thank the Lord, cause we ditched the devil, left him three thousand miles behind

We can’t know for sure how this journey will unfold

So we show up at these places with contentment on our faces

We can hope for the best, but I’m sure we will be tested

There’s no promise of success, so remember that we’re blessed just as we are

We don’t know what our future is holding, so we look for open doors

We’ve been told that the times are changing, use more caution than before

So throw your arms around my neck as I tightly squeeze your hips

And we can dance atop this world as we satisfy our lips

And all of those who stand against us should no longer be mentioned

Let’s knock down all the fences. We can live without the tension they create

But we’ve got hope and we’ve got a pure love, we could ask for nothing more

Though the cold and dark times may come, we can give each other strength and warmth

TRUSTY BRANCH

Climb up this tree, sit next to me, on a trusty branch

Won't you hold my hand

Look at the view while I look at you, it’s a pretty sight

Yes, it’s pure delight

Put a blanket down, we’ll sit on the ground, 'til the stars show up

And the day is done

Sip on or wine, the night sky does shine, down upon us

As we kiss and touch

How I fear a change in the weather

I could lay like this with you forever

Surely life itself will rearrange things

All we have to do is chase that same dream

Howl at the moon, we’ll sing out this tune to the beasts and birds

Teach ‘em every the words

Share all our thoughts, what have you got, on your precious mind

Tell me what you find

Lay down our heads, on this makeshift bed, bodies intertwined

Hearts beat in time

Drift off to sleep, the daylight will creep, in a little while

When the morning smiles

BEING BROKE

Can’t say it’s bothering me

Can’t say it’s bringing me down

Yes, it’s a troubling thing, but I won’t show a frown

Must be a hole in my pocketbook

You know that I’m talkin’ about being broke

Money’s a sensitive friend,

That I’ve offended somehow

Sometimes it tries to pretend, like it’s gonna stick around

Well, I can scrimp, save and salvage,

But it always amounts to being broke

You know those times in your life,

When everything seems to work out just right

You got your ducks in a row

And the cash is starting to flow

But then the engine blows and the kids need clothes, you’re back to being broke

But keep you head held high

It’s just a fact of life

Some people sit pretty

Some have to fight to survive

But I’ve got wealth in my soul, so I don’t mind growin’ old being broke

SHINING ON ME

I thank God for this very day

The life I live is a gift to me

I don’t intend to waste it

And when it’s tough I’ll face it

I don’t have much, but I’ve got more than enough

A beautiful family and the woman I love

I am a fortunate man

And I won’t take it for granted

So please Lord, keep shining on me

And if you move your hand from my head, give me the strength that I need

Yes, please Lord, keep shining on me

Through the darkest of days let your light fall to guide my feet

I’ve been wrong and I’ve made mistakes

I’ve been let down and had some pretty tough breaks

But I’m not hanging my head

I’m moving forward instead

I’m not too smart, but I keep making my way

I work from the heart so I don’t trouble my brain

My life is simple I guess

But I consider it blessed

I’d be a fool to claim I could take on everything by myself

It would show more courage to be down and ask for a little help

In this big world full of evil and good

All I pray is that I do what I should

To ease the pain of another

Whether a stranger or brother

It’s fine to say that I’ve got it made

I have my health and a place to stay

But I won’t be content

Unless my life’s well spent

MY FATHER'S HOUSE

I was a lonely wayward traveler, in a world so dark with sin.

Crying out for mercy, but none would have me in.

And then the bells of freedom, they rang so clearly in these ears once

deaf and pained.

Calling me back to my Father’s house again.

I was a sick and broken beggar, wandered aimlessly in quest.

Straining at horizons, resting on some golden crest.

And then I saw the greatness of his throne in heaven with these

eyes once blind and feigned.

Showing me the way back to my Father’s house again

Now I’m a joyful pilgrim traveling onward, the sun shines on my face.

I’ve seen the hope of righteousness, I’ve heard a choir of angels sing.

And now I’m stepping along on the road to glory, this life no longer in vain.

Because I’m on the way back to my Father’s house agai

GUN & BLESSING

The older man spoke wisely as he told the boy beside him, son there’s plenty you could do to change the world.

But you must head out after midnight. You can’t afford to waste any time. With each day the consequences grow.

So here’s my gun and here’s my blessing. Pace yourself there is no resting. Your enemies relentlessly will fight.

It’s raining in the town up ahead, and everybody there wants you dead. So don’t you raise voice, just remember what I said.

It’s your actions that make the change, not your words or ability to persuade.

It’s the honestly you display, consistent with promises that you make.

You’re a rock in a sea of turmoil; steadfast enduring the push of the waves.

You’re a tree with its roots running deeply; no storm shall move you nor break your faith.

So keep that pistol hidden, and if you use it, boy God forbid, you have to go on living with regret.

Yes that weapon can bring justice, get you food, and protect the helpless, but one wrong move and your life is through in a blink.

So that young man full of courage, he packed thinks up in a hurry. He was sure this was the purpose for his life.

He traveled thru painful weather, his path lit by a star from heaven. He moved along with these things on his mind.

The people stopped when he arrived. A deep hatred shot from their eyes. Their hearts were hard and their minds were far from the truth.

They said, “We don’t want your message. Our logic outweighs your lessons. Your god is weak and the faith you keep is a waste.

“You see we will prevail by might and reason. Our own strength is what we believe in. Any words you have will bring you to your grave.”

But he stood strong and he was bold, amongst the pack of hungry wolves. They wanted blood, but he showed them love anyways.

As their circle closed around him, he threw his gun down to the ground and looked out on the crowd without a fear.

The young man held up his hands, cracked a smile and began to dance. He sang out loud for all the proud to hear.

BREATHE DEEPLY

Flat on my back, eyes half open

Silhouette of a large man hovering over me

He said to just relax, “You’re bruised and broken.”

“You would be dead if I’d a left you in that street.”

“What’s your business here? You must be looking for trouble.

Folks in these parts will execute a man for next to nothing.”

“You’ve got to stay clear. You’d better keep to yourself boy.

Your righteous heart is causing you to lead a life of suffering.”

You ought to breathe, deeply. Feel yourself living. You’re alive in a new way.

I told him, “Thank you sir. You’ve shown me great kindness.

Whether or not you know what is I seek.”

But I am here for a reason, and my purpose is clear.

I bring a gospel of love and they can beat my body ‘til they hear it.

Yes my bones are aching, and my flesh it burns.

It’s a small price to pay for the glory that will be returned.

If there’s a question of wisdom. If it’s an issue of truth.

Well I’ve been saved by grace and by faith my soul will be renewed

I’m gonna breathe, deeply. Feel myself living. I’m alive in a new way.

PRECIOUS GIFT

My precious gift, I hold you selfishly

I will admit, it’s a wild type of love that’s overtaken me

I found a truth, that only you could bring

And I cherish you, beyond myself and more than any worldly thing

So I need you, to always be near, to rid of my fear, that this might come undone

And I long to, live out our promise, the vows that we offered, that day our hearts rejoiced

My perfect queen, your love is strong and bright

Your very being, illuminates my soul with adoring light

I hope to show, the same for you, my wife

And still it grows, blessed by our Creator with a sweet, new life

So I need you, to always be near, to rid of my fear, that this might come undone

And I long to, live out our promise, the vows that we offered, that day our hearts rejoiced…

And still our hearts rejoice…

Forever we rejoice

OUR FEATURE

Let’s not borrow from the films, we’ve got a sweet love of our own

We don’t need any ideas to teach us how to show it

Let’s not borrow from the films, we’ve got a feature of our own

But we won’t make the big screens cause we’re the only ones who know it

Darling I pray that we grow old enough to get our fill of this love

Or maybe it’s too much for just one lifetime

People may say that it will settle down, the fire burns out slowly

But they’ve given up and feel that we must too… but that’s not true

There’s too much to be discovered for us to act just how we’re told

Let’s not fall into the fold, we could perform a great new role

We’ll play off of one another as if the audience were full

Darling I pray that we grow old enough to get our fill of this love

Or maybe it’s too much for just one lifetime

People may say that it will settle down, the fire burns out slowly

But they’ve given up and feel that we must too

So, darling I pray that we grow old enough to get our fill of this love

Or maybe it’s too much, so we should let it overflow… overflow

Let it overflow

Let’s not borrow from the films, we’ve got a sweet love of our own

We don’t need any ideas to teach us how to show it

CELEBRITES

I don’t want to waste this life trying to maintain comfort

I’d rather try to spend my time preparing for a change

I’ve been shy of greatness ever since I was an infant

But I’ve recently discovered that it’s great to come up short

You can save the fame and loads of money, for the pigs, the dogs and birds

I admit I find it awfully funny, that they glorify that curse

I don’t mean to say I’m better because of my beliefs, but I do believe I’m better of without celebrities

Don’t get me wrong, it wont be long before I get my break

But when I do, I promise you, I wont become a fake

I’d like to think I might become a modern Robin Hood

Gather up some excess cash and give it all for good

I might try my hand in politics, to make a monumental change

I could adopt some foreign babies, and give them all symbolic names

I don’t mean to say I’m better because of my beliefs, but I do believe I’m better of without celebrities

If I were offered luxury, I’d suck it up and take it

I might be called a martyr for the rest who couldn’t make it

I’d support the working class and wear a lot of denim

Receive awards and accolades, but surely would resent ‘em

If you see me drive a new Ferrari, you can hop in for a ride

You can’t expect me to be sorry, I still got my small town pride

I don’t mean to say I’m better because of my beliefs, but I do believe I’m better of without celebrities

In the end I must defend the lifestyles of the famous

There are some stars with modest cars who aren’t completely shameless

They are people too, like me and you, beneath the glitz and glamour

So if you can, please understand that life is hard on camera

Occupied with fancy parties, must be tough to find a break

Call the chef to make some breakfast, then go sail the private lake

I don’t mean to say I’m better because of my beliefs, but I do believe I’m better of without celebrities

SWEET RELEASE

I got a lot done before the noonday sun came up

This morning feels like yesterday

I’ve got a part-time job to make a little bit of money

Darling please, bring me sweet release

We’re gonna go downtown, try to get unwound tonight

The week is done and my check is cashed

A hundred dollar bill, got to make it last

Lover please, bring me sweet release

Now it’s 2 AM and we’ll end with one more song

The band is hot and the floor is packed

Gonna dance you right home baybuh, that’s a fact

Honey please, bring me sweet release

Sidewalk sleepers and corner store creepers

Quick-paced couples scurrying back to their hotels

A low fog rolls through an obscured golden moon

Thugs anticipate at the mouths of alleyways

Expired parking meters and strung-out bottom feeders

Slow cars grumble past, each one more beat up than the last

A cop cruiser slides by every once in a while

Keep things from getting too wild

KEEPIN' ON

We’ve got to keep on keepin' on

We’re gonna rise up with the dawn

We’re gonna stare down all the fears we have

We’re gonna make right what is wrong

We can hush up all the liars

We can flush out all the cheats

We can care for one another

We can work through pain and grief

The uphill feels steeper

And the road seems awfully long

Sure the easy path is cheaper

But the struggles make us strong

Day and Night there’s a battle

We can’t fight on our own

Lord Jesus will work his wonders

We won’t have to fight alone
